Reading at Home - resources and tips.

Top Tips for Reading with Your Child 

 

We've put together a range of reading resources which we hope will help you through this unusual time. There's books to share, access to digital libraries with reading books to suit every reader, links to the publishers of the reading books we use in school, audio books, e-books as well as  authors & illustrators reading & drawing from their own work. We'll add to the page when new & interesting things come out. And below is reminder of our top tips to enjoying reading at home.  

 

  • Read for pleasure - keep it light & fun
  • Share books together – read to each other & make sure you all feel involved.
  • Stop and chat about the story/content, what you notice, how it makes you feel, what it makes you think about.
  • Enjoy picture books – great for beginner readers but illustrated books help developing and older readers too.
  • Re-read books you’ve already got – familiarity helps confidence
  • Encourage confident readers to enjoy a range of authors, and types of books.
  • The Book of Hope - free e-book Over 100 stories for KS2 and up from some of the best children's authors writing today in aid of and dedicated to the NHS
  • Get Epic! Digital library with many popular audio & e-books - free 30 day membership
  • Richmond Libraries If you're a member of Richmond Borough libraries you can access their digital library services
  • Book Trust Home Lots of book & reading based activities from a variety of children's authors.
  • Emily Gravett Fantastic illustrator & author has lots of activities and readings of her lovely picture books. Find her readings on Youtube too.
  • Tom Palmer Author of great series of books such as Roy of the Rovers, Football Academy, Defenders and about history such as D-Day Dog has special Home Learning section on this site
  • Vanessa Woolf - Storyteller Vanessa who visited us earlier this year has kindly shared her reading of Paddington for St Paul's Cathedral. Find her on Youtube for more stories.
