PHONICS

This week's phoneme is 'm'. Watch Mr Thorne and Geraldine Giraffe explore the 'm phoneme.

Practise writing the letter 'm' and try some of the activities.

ACTIVITY 1 - MIRROR MIRROR

After watching the 'm' videos have a go at saying 'm' in front of the mirror.

 

Try saying some of these 'm' tongue twisters!

 

My mum makes marshmallows!

 

Miss Molly mixes marmalade!

 

Monkeys and mice make me mad!

 

Can you think of your own 'm' tongue twister? Hmmmmmmm??!

 

 

ACTIVITY 2 - Draw a 'm' picture

Draw a picture of things that start with 'm'. How many things in your pictures start with m?

ACTIVITY 3 - 'M' MODELS

Make some play dough and make the letter 'm'. Have a go at making some animals that begin with 'm or other objects that begin with 'm'.

ACTIVITY 4 - 'M' COOKING

Make something that starts with the letter 'm, ie macaroni cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, pizza with mozzarella, marble cake, muffins or a milkshake!

ACTIVITY 5 - METAL MIKE

Use robot 'Metal Mike' to practise saying/reading some cvc words. However, Mike only likes to 'eat' words that have the 'm' sound in them. Robot talk the words and feed words that have a 'm sound in them to Mike. Put the other ones on the side. Remember to use your robot voice and robot arms!
