This week we are learning all about the number 7. Watch the Number blocks episode 'seven' and try some of the activities below all about number 7!

 

 

ACTIVITY 1 - MAKE 7

Use blocks or objects at home to make the number 7. How many different ways can you make the number 7?   1 + 6 = 7,   2 + 5 = 7

What happens when you start with 7 and take some away? 7 - 2 = 5

 

ACTIVITY 2 - STAMPOLINES

Use a block in paint to create a stamp to make stampolines of the number 7. How many different shapes can you make using your block stamp? Remember number 7 is made up of 7 blocks. You could also use building blocks to make the shapes. We did this activity in Nursery before the holidays. If you need a reminder watch the Number blocks episode 'stampolines'.

 

ACTIVITY 3 - NUMBER HUNT

Go on a walk around your neighbourhood. See if you can see the number 7? How many did you see? See if you can collect 7 leaves, 7 sticks or 7 stones. Can you can 7 of something...7 trees, 7 flowers, 7 clouds, 7 houses.

 

ACTIVITY 4 - HANDWRITING PRACTISE

Practise writing the number 7 using the handwriting sheet below or have a go at writing the number 7 on your own or see the ideas below.

 

  • write 7 in sand with your finger or a stick
  • write 7 on paper using crayons, pencils, pens, felt tips...see how many different coloured 7's you can write.
  • Write 7 in the bath with water.
  • Use water to 'paint' the letter 7 outside on the ground
  • Make 7 with stones, sticks, leaves
  • Paint the number 7

Be as creative as you can...how many ways did you write/make the number 7

 

ACTIVITY 5 - DIRECTIONAL LANGUAGE (LINKED TO THE THREE LITTLE PIGS)

Print the grid of The Three Little Pigs journey. Direct the wolf to the pigs houses. Try and use the words up, down, left, right.

Also try the Busy Things direction game and save the animals.
