The Invisible - Tom Percival

Life is quite tough for Isabel and her family, they don't have much money and have to move to a far away and unfamiliar part of the city. Isabel seems to be losing herself, until she notices the people around her. Year 3 liked the way the story turned around. It's a beautifully written and illustrated book.

My Beautiful Voice - Joseph Coelho & illustrator Alison Colpoys

Y2 have been reading lots of Joseph Coelho's wonderful books, so were keen to have this as a class book. Alison Colpoy's fabulous colourful illustrations give life to a quietly powerful story of a child overcoming a real fear of speaking aloud in class and discovering their own 'beautiful voice'

The Plesiosaur's Neck by Dr Adam S Smith & Jonathan Emmett - illustrator Adam Larkum

We read this in every class from Year 3 to 6 on World Book Day and it started lots of discussions about evolution, dinosaurs and why Poppy the Plesiosaur may have had such a long neck. Written jointly by an author and an expert palentologist, it's a really creative non-fiction text full of facts and questions but with all the rhyme and colourful appeal of a picture book.

Leo & the Gorgon's Curse - Joe Todd Stanton

Graphic Novels/Books are hugely popular with our readers, and this one, full of fantastic colourful images and based on some familiar character from Greek Legend, already has plenty of fans. Although based on Greek Mythology, it's a story with an original twist which seemed to appeal equally to children who knew about some of the mythical creatures and gods involved and those who didn't. Joe Todd-Stanton is both author and illustrator so it's no surprise words and pictures work together seamlessly.
