THIS WEEK'S LEARNING
English:
This week we will starting our new book, 'The Arrival' by Shaun Tan. It's a beautiful picture book about immigration and the journey of a man as he embarks a new life to help his family. We will be focusing on modal verbs and varying our verbs for impact. We will be writing short descriptive pieces about the first few pictures in the book and the man's journey to the train station with the aim of building up atmosphere.
Maths:
In maths we will recapping short multiplication and long multiplication from year 5 and then applying these skills to reasoning problems. We will also be continuing with our weekly arithmetic practice to build and consolidate these skills under timed conditions.
Big Picture:
We will be carrying on with learning about Brazil. We will look at the rainforest and the abundant amount of species which live there. We will be writing information reports about a species of our choice. We will then look at what the rainforest provides us and the danger it is in due to deforestation. We will write a persuasive argument to inform people about the danger the Amazon rainforest is in and persuade people to act.
RE:
We will be finishing off our topic on Buddhism and how their beliefs shape the world around them. We will also use this session to be reflective in our own lives.
Science:
In Science we will be using prisms to investigate the light spectrum.
