Maths activities for the week:
This week we are looking at addition within 10. The children should use real objects to see that the quantity of a group has changed by adding more. At first, the children may need to re-count all of the items to see how many the have altogether, e.g. 1,2,3...4,5,6 but when they are ready encourage them to count on, e.g. 4...5,6,7.
Activity 1: Find 5 items of food and write yourself a shopping list, count to make sure you have 5. Then add in 1 or 2 more items, see if your child knows how many there are by counting on. You could always write a number sentence too e.g. 5 + 1 = 6
Activity 2: Have a go at some of these maths games:

Science activities:
This week I would like you to have a go at some science exploration and investigation.
We are going to be looking at things that float or sink.
Have a go with a selection of different objects, you could use natural materials that you may find outside or household objects.
Challenge: Make a prediction before you test the objects, e.g. I think that the stick will float but the spoon will sink.
