PHONICS

This week we begin on Phase 2. Phase 2 phonics are the beginning single sounds.

Watch the video below and try to do some of the follow up activities linked to this week's sound.

This week's sound is 'S'.

ACTIVITY 1 'S' HUNT

Go for a sound hunt around your house, garden or when you're out for a walk. What objects can you see that start with the 'S' sound? Can you see the letter s written anywhere on signs?

ACTIVITY 2 I SPY

Play I spy. Try spying words that start with S. You could even spy words with the s as a middle or end sound.

e.g I spy with my little eye something that has s at the end....bus

I spy with my little eye something that has s in the middle....basket

ACTIVITY 3 WRITING/MAKING 'S'

Practise writing the letter s. You can use the handwriting sheet, this can be found in the handwriting folder on our class page. Alternatively you can see how many of these you can do:

  • write s in sand with your finger or a stick
  • write s on paper using crayons, pencils, pens, felt tips...see how many different coloured s's you can write.
  • Write s in the bath with water.
  • Use water to 'paint' the letter s outside on the ground
  • Make the letter s with stones, sticks, leaves
  • Paint the letter s

Be as creative as you can...how many ways did you write/make the letter s?

ACTIVITY 4- SOUND GAMES

Play the phase 1 games on phonics play.
