PHONICS

Welcome back to phonics learning for this half term. We will continue to learn the phase 2 phonemes, focusing on one phoneme a week. This week's phoneme is 'p'. Watch Mr Thorne and Geraldine the giraffe and try some of the activities.

ACTIVITY 1- SOUND HUNT

Go on a sound hunt around your house, garden or neighbourhood. See how many objects you can see that start with the sound 'p'. You might even find some objects that have the 'p' sound in the middle or the end of the word. HAPPY HUNTING!

ACTIVITY 2 - 'p' PICTURE

Draw a picture using objects that start with the 'p' sound. You could have a look in some old magazines for pictures of objects that start with 'p' to make a 'p'college.

ACTIVITY 3 - 'P' FOODS

Make a 'p' meal using foods that begin with 'p'. You could use potatoes, pumpkin, pineapple, peas, peanut butter, pears, plums. See how many 'p' foods you can eat this week! Yum yum!

ACTIVITY 4 - PRACTISE WRITING  'p'

Practise writing the letter 'p'. Try some of these fun ways to practise writing letter 'p'.

  • write p in sand with your finger or a stick
  • make the letter p with play dough
  • write p on paper using crayons, pencils, pens, felt tips...see how many different coloured p's you can write.
  • Write p in the bath with water.
  • Write p in shaving foam
  • Use water to 'paint' the letter p outside on the ground
  • Make the letter p with stones, sticks, leaves
  • Paint the letter p

Be as creative as you can...how many ways did you write/make the letter a?

ACTIVITY 5 - MATCH THE BEGINNING SOUND
