MATHS

This week in maths we are learning how to make the number 6 in different ways. Watch the number blocks episode 'counting sheep' and then try some of the activities below.

This week have a go at some measuring length activities too.

ACTIVITY 1 - MAKING 6

Use the sheep pictures to tell the story of the sheep running away. Use 6 blocks you have at home to 'catch' the run away sheep. How did they run away? If you can't print the sheep make your own at home or use some other toys you have to pretend to be sheep. How did number block 6 split herself to run after the sheep? How many different ways did she split herself?

ACTIVITY 2 - NUMBER 6 CHALLENGES

Try some of the challenges all about the number 6.

ACTIVITY 3 - MAKE 6 WITH NUMICON

Use the Numicon to make different arrangements of 6. Stick the Numicon on top of the 6 Numicon to show how to make 6. ie 3 + 3,   3 + 2 + 1,    4+ 2,    4 +1 + 1

Show as many different ways as you can.

ACTIVITY 4 - ORDERING LENGTH

Find some sticks in your garden. Put them in order from longest to shortest.

Use the sheet and put the worms in order from longest to shortest.

ACTIVITY 5 - COMPARING LENGTH

Sort the caterpillars into different groups.

ACTIVITY 6- BUILDING TOWERS

Build a tower of 5 bricks tall. Now build a tower that is taller than 5 bricks. How many bricks did you use? Build a tower shorter that 5 bricks. How many bricks did you use?

ACTIVITY 7 - HOW TALL AM I?

Get an adult to help measure how tall you are with a tape measure. See if you can find objects that are taller than you, shorter than you and the same height as you.

ACTIVITY 8 - TALLER/SHORTER GAME

Play the Busy Things LENGTH game. (pinned to Nursery home page)
