NUMBER ACTIVITIES

Watch the Number blocks 'Odds and Evens' and try some activities.

ACTIVITY 1 - SHARING GAME

Play this game with an adult, sibling or toy. Collect some objects from around the house. Start with 1 object. Can you give out the same number of objects to each person? If not that number is odd! Next get 2 objects, can you give your partner and you the same number of objects? If yes that number is even. See if you can work out which numbers are odd and even up to 10. You could even try this game with some sweeties!!

ACTIVITY 1 - NATURE HUNT

Go on a nature hunt in your garden or the park. See if you can find the following:

1 Snail

2 Spiders

3 Dandelions

4 Pine cones

5 Sticks

6 Stones

7 Flowers

8 Leaves

9 Birds

10 Trees

You could try and make up your own nature hunt using the numbers 1 to 10.

 

 

 

 

ACTIVITY 2- HOW MANY COUNTING TO 10

Practise 1:1 matching by counting groups of objects up to 10.

ACTIVITY 3 - BUSY THINGS

Play the counting games: Action time, Number gym, Counting pink men, Islands how many?, Fun two, three, four, Feed the monkey

Watch the Number blocks episode 'Blast off' and try some activities.

 

ACTIVITY 1 - MAKING 10

Use your Lego or Duplo blocks to make 10. Choose 2 colours to show the different pairs of numbers that equal 10. For example 2 orange blocks together and 8 green blocks together equals 10.

ACTIVITY 2 - ORDERING TO 10

Cut out and order the numbers to 10.

MEASUREMENT

Try some of these other maths activities about measurement.

ACTIVITY 1 - CAPACITY WITCH'S BREW (Linked to Room on the broom)

Make a witch's brew using water and a cup. You can make the water more interesting by adding food colouring and glitter! Try putting in a whole cup of one colour and half a cup of another colour. Experiment with how much and how little of each colour you use!

ACTIVITY 2 - MEASURING AND COMPARING LENGTH

Use blocks to measure how tall the giraffes are. Which giraffe is the tallest? Which giraffe is the shortest?

NUMBER WRITING

Use the sheets below to help practise writing numbers. You can practise writing with chalk, sticks in the dirt,felt tips, crayons, finger painting, in shaving foam. Practise as many different ways as you can!
