Wednesday the 3rd of June should have been Borough Sports Day at St Mary's University Sports Field.

Sadly, that can't happen for obvious reasons, but it hasn't been forgotten!

For those of you who are perhaps not familiar with Borough Sports, each primary school in the whole borough of Richmond sends a team of four year 6 girls, four year 6 boys, and two boys and girls from years 5 and 4 respectively. The children compete in sprints, throwing and jumping events, a grueling long distance race and a final whole-school relay race. To be picked for the team, you have to be a talented all-rounder and a good team-mate!

At St Richard's we would usually include some trial events within PE lessons during the first half of the summer term, but we also always base team selection on overall commitment and contribution to PE lessons, sports clubs and teams throughout the whole school year.

Therefore, despite the lock down, we have been able to select the team that would  have gone if the event had taken place.

We wanted to make sure the children received the recognition they deserve for their efforts through the year (and over several years in most cases).

I am proud to announce that the 2020 St Richard's Borough Sports squad is:

Year 6: Neve, Saskia, Ane-Kathrine, Madison,  Nathan, Gabriel, Che, Zain.

Year 5: Ashayah, Deeba, George, Amil.

Year 4: Cecilie, Faye, Raheim, Freddie C.

The injury back-ups would have been:

Year 6: Charlotte and Oliver.

Year 5: Becci and Dylan

Year 4: Michelle and Putin

Well done all of you, and thank you for your hard work and team spirit! You have been excellent sporting role models.

Mr Neill - P.E. co-ordinator
