Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The majority of children make good progress as a result of high quality teaching in the classroom.  For many children a little extra help from time to time, which may take the form of small group work and some additional support in the classroom,  ensures they do not fall behind.  However, for a small number of children, accessing the curriculum can be difficult.  If we feel a child is experiencing significant difficulties with their learning that are outside of the normal parameters, we will consider registering their special educational needs at SEN Support level in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice. Where this is the case we will arrange for the child to be offered a range of additional support in school which may include literacy or maths interventions, speech, language and communication groups, fine and gross motor programmes and emotional and behavioural support.  These interventions may be delivered in the classroom or in a quiet space and may be within a small group setting or on a one to one basis.  The child's special educational provision will be recorded in a SEN support plan and parents/carers will be involved at every step.

Sometimes a child has needs we feel would be best met through an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).  If this is the case we work very closely with parents/carers and other professionals to make a request for a statutory assessment of the child's needs which may result in an EHCP.  We work closely with the local authority and independent support services to make this process as straightforward and smooth as possible.

For more information see our SEND Policy below.

Our Inclusion lead is Mrs Julie Singleton and she is also one of our SENCOs.  Mrs Sharon Webber is also a qualified SENCO as well as a class teacher.  If you would like to speak to us about your child's needs please contact the school on 020 8940 7911.
