We believe that children who are fit, healthy and physically challenged will perform better in class. Every child has a minimum of two PE lessons a week, combined with daily sessions of outdoor learning, lunch time sports activities and optional/targeted pre- and after-school clubs.
We are situated on a large green-field site; we have a large gymnasium and are lucky enough to have our own indoor swimming pool, which has just been completely refurbished, enabling us to use it all year round.
PE is taught in both competitive and non-competitive settings and is combined with clear teaching in health and well-being.
We provide plenty of opportunities for pupils to take part in sport during breakfast club, at lunchtime and after school. Furthermore, we support our most able athletes with additional coaching and challenge them by competing in local tournaments (such as running, basketball, the borough football league and swimming gala). Our most able all-round athletes from years 4-6 qualify for the prestigious Borough Sports event at St Mary's University.
We are very proud to participate in inter-school and borough wide competitions.
Thanks to the government's focus on increasing sports provision in schools we have made ambitious and exciting plans. As a result we are focusing heavily on Football, Swimming and Athletics. Please see the attachments below for more information:
Our standard Physical Education curriculum includes:
All pupils take part in 2 hours of exciting, challenging and inclusive PE lessons a week and this includes gymnastics, dance, outdoor games, athletics and swimming. PE sessions are delivered either outside, in our extensive school grounds' or indoors in our hall by our sports coach; and by our qualified swimming instructor in our newly refurbished school swimming pool. KS2 pupils build on the skills they have developed in KS1.
All children in Reception to Year 6 swim weekly throughout the year in our onsite, refurbished, indoor pool and the majority of children are confident swimmers by the end of Reception class. This achievement impacts their confidence right across the curriculum.
Our pool operators Springboard Swimmers, teach in groups of up to 7 learners and focus on developing good quality stoke and breathing technique until children are confident, competent swimmers. In Year 6 children are taught some basic life saving techniques.
Our strongest swimmers are invited to our 'Elite' sessions before school and the coaches work on their strength and stamina. They go on to represent the school in the borough swimming gala.
We were delighted to have 4 representatives in this year's Small Schools Swimming Gala finals.
After-school private lessons are provided by Springboard Swimmers who can be contacted on 020 8894 6640.
Our annual Sports Day is fun, atmospheric and competitive, with prize-giving for both teams and individuals. Our carousel format of events includes the long jump, throwing and hurdling and we even played Chariots of Fire on loud speaker to get us in the mood!
