Welcome from the Head Teacher

Head TeacherI am tremendously proud to be the Head Teacher here. We are lucky to benefit from unusually generous green surroundings. In addition we have  well laid out buildings and our very own swimming pool, which is about to be completely refurbished, with upgraded changing rooms and facilities to enable disabled access too. However, we feel it is our strong, inclusive Christian ethos that really sets us apart.

This is an intimate and nurturing place to learn, for every child, whatever their background. The atmosphere is calm, ordered and purposeful – never rigid or over directed - but disciplined, respectful and organised. We have high aspirations for all our pupils and believe that through stretching children we build their confidence and self esteem.

St Richard's is positioned in the centre of Ham and with this in mind we constantly look for opportunities to serve our local community, helping to shape its future through the children who attend our school. Central to my purpose is that the children here learn to give from the heart, in response to the needs of others, rather than out of obligation.

The entire school gathers in St Richard’s Church each Tuesday to reflect upon important issues, to worship together and to consider the Christian principles that are at the heart of our ethos. Within this loving, compassionate environment, we find that teaching and learning are all the more effective right across the curriculum.

We welcome prospective parents who would like to visit. I hope that you will be amongst them and very much look forward to welcoming you to our school.
